Application of Taber Abrasion Tester in Performance Test of Shoe Upper Leather Material

The wear resistance of shoe upper materials is one of the important indicators reflecting the quality of footwear products. In the process of wearing shoes, with the activities of the feet, the material of the toe part will often rub against the external environment such as steps and ground bumps. The inner part of the shoe will inevitably rub against the toes and instep. If the upper material does not have good wear resistance, as the number of frictions accumulates over time, it will cause the upper material to fade, fluff, pilling or even damage, which will affect the life of the shoe. Strengthening the testing of shoe upper materials, screening out materials with high abrasion strength for use in toe caps, shoe linings and other easily damaged parts, is of great significance to improving the overall durability and service life of shoes. Rotating platform and double-headed abrasion tester represented by Taber abrasion tester have many advantages such as easy operation, stable results and wide application range. They have been recognized by more and more domestic and foreign customers. Many companies and trades The business designated Taber abrasion test results as one of the important indicators to characterize the abrasion resistance of shoe materials. The instrument structure and test principle of the Taber abrasion tester mainly refer to ASTMD 3884-2009 'Rotating Platform Double-head Method for Textile Fabric Abrasion Resistance Guide'. However, the lack of unified test specifications and stable data support affects the method’s performance. Material testing is especially widely used in the detection of complicated footwear materials. This article mainly uses Taber abrasion tester to conduct actual testing and analysis of the wear resistance of soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather, textiles and other commonly used upper materials, focusing on the selection of test conditions such as grinding wheel model and load. And clarify, in order to provide a reference for standardizing related testing work and further formulating industry standards, and expect to expand the application of international advanced testing methods in footwear quality testing. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology [2011] No. 165 'Notice on Printing and Distributing the Third Batch of Industry Standards in 2011The plan number of the industry standard is: 2011-2639T-QB. The drafting team is composed of the Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center of Fujian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and the National Footwear Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Wenzhou) to draft the industry standard. . At present, the drafting of the standard has entered the stage of submission for review, and part of the verification data in this article comes from this standard project. 1 Test part 1.1 Test principle The test sample is placed on a rotating platform, and the two friction wheels above it are driven to roll by the rotating platform. The friction wheels perform rotating friction movement with the sample under a certain load to wear the sample. One friction wheel faces outward, and the other friction wheel faces inward to rub the sample. The wear trace is an overlapping ring. After the specified number of friction circles, the graded evaluation is carried out according to the wear condition and color change degree of the sample surface. 1.2 Test equipment GT-7012-T TABER abrasion tester produced by Taiwan High Speed u200bu200bRail Inspection Instrument Co., Ltd., the rotating platform of the rotating speed is (60±5) r/min, and the supporting rod is increased by adding weights to the sample. The load can be selected as (500±10)g or (1000±20)g. There are four types of friction grinding wheel CS10, CS17, H18 and H22 in the order of increasing wear strength. 1.3 Preparation of samples Take 5 common types of shoe upper materials, including soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather, and textiles, as test samples. Take 3 representative samples of each type for testing. Each test sample Cut each of 8 round samples with a diameter of (106±1) mm to be tested, and fold the samples to be tested twice in half, then cut off the overlapping corners with scissors to form a circular hole with a diameter of 6mm in the center . The test results are shown in Table 1 to Table 5. 1.4 Test conditions The test is carried out under the conditions of temperature (20 ± 2) ℃ and humidity (65% ± 5%). Before the test, the sample should be placed in the standard environment required by GB/T22049-2008 'Shoes, Footwear and Footwear Components Environmental Regulation and Test Environment' [2], and adjust for more than 4 hours. 1.5 Test procedure Fix the sample face up on the rotating platform, and install the selected grinding wheel on the supporting rod. After selecting the appropriate load, put down the supporting rod, make the grinding wheel contact the surface of the sample, connect and open the dust suction device. Start the instrument and test according to the number of revolutions set by the counter. For shoe upper materials, 500 times of friction are uniformly adopted. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the abrasion of the sample, and use the gray sample card to evaluate the test area in accordance with GB/T 250-2008 'Textile color fastness test evaluation gray sample card for discoloration' [3] Color change and color fastness grade.
