Martindale Abrasion Tester Operation and Precautions

Machine Model: GT-C13B

Product Name: Martindale Abrasion Resistance and Pilling Tester

Application: It can detect the abrasion resistance and pilling performance of various fabrics.

Comply with the standard:

ASTMD 4970; ISO12945.2; GB/T4802.2 /13775/21196.1/21196.2;ASTMD4966;ISO 12947;FZ/T 20020;BS3424-24/5690;ISO 12947.1/12947.2;M&S; P17/P19/P19C; NEXT 18/18a/18b; ISO5470-2; IWTO-40; JIS L10968.17.5 MethodE; Woolmark TM112/196; BS EN 388/530/13770;

The round fabric sample is fixed on the grinding table, and the friction test is carried out with the friction head fixed with the standard friction cloth. There are three evaluation methods: the determination of sample damage, the determination of mass loss, and the evaluation of appearance changes. 2) Pilling test The pilling test method used in Martindale was developed with EMPA.

The test is suitable for knitted and woven fabrics (woven from spun yarn). Use a testing instrument to simulate the pilling that occurs in normal wear. Under slight pressure, rub the sample mounted on the sample holder and the fabric on the grinding table with each other in a certain geometric pattern, and then rub the ground sample. Compared with the standard sample photo.

According to the type of the tested sample, it can be simply divided into: knitted pilling review sample photo, woven fabric pilling review sample photo. And according to the eye redness of pilling, it is divided into five grades 5-no pilling? 4-slight pilling? 3-moderate pilling 2-severe pilling 1-very serious pilling Test method: the test sample is under the specified pressure Rubbing with a standard rubbing cloth, after reaching a predetermined number of rotations, to evaluate the wear resistance of the sample.

Product features:

1) Number of stations: 9, which can significantly improve the test efficiency;

2) Movable sample fastening components: a friction sample can be taken out at any time without affecting other samples, which improves the testing flexibility;

3) Friction Counting range: 0~999999 times, it can adapt to the test requirements of different wear-resistant materials and standards;

4) Stroke: horizontal 60.5±0.5mm, vertical 24±0.5mm, which can adapt to the needs of different sizes of materials to be tested;

5) Two effective friction diameters: can be selected according to actual needs

6) The relative movement speed of the gripper and the grinding table is adjustable: 20-70r/min The sample preparation is placed for a period of time according to different standard requirements in a standard environment, in a tiled, unstretched state. Such as 24h (GB/T 4802.2-1997), 16h (EN ISO 12947-4:1998)

2. Selection of samples Cut a sample from different parts of the whole fabric, and the sample should be representative. In the case of fancy fabrics, the sample shall include all the different textures and shades exhibited by the fabric;

3. Remove the load and load shaft from the testing machine

4. Remove the top plate and test fixture;

5. The device of the sample : Loosen the fixing ring on the test fixture, take off the sample pressing piece, and put the sample into the test fixture base. When the tested fabric is not more than 500 g/m2, a piece of polyester foam is placed between the sample and the metal plug of the sample holder; when it is greater than 500 g/m2, or a composite fabric, no foam is required. The specimens on each specimen clamp shall be subjected to the same tension.

6. The device of wool felt and friction cloth: put the felt and abrasive on the grinding table, put the weight on the abrasive, then put the pressure ring, and tighten the nut, so that the pressure ring can fix the abrasive on the grinding table.

7. Put the grinding head on the abrasive to pressurize;

8. Place the test fixture with the sample face down and place it on the base fixture, and adjust the circular groove of the test fixture to align the load shaft, so that the load shaft is inserted In the circular groove of the test fixture;

9. According to the standard set times, start the switch, start the test, and automatically stop after the set number of times:

10. Remove the sample and compare the standard sample in the rating box according to Martindale Notes on the operation of the abrasion tester:

1. The friction cloth cannot be used repeatedly, and a friction cloth needs to be replaced every time the test is completed;

2. The wool felt can be used repeatedly. If the surface is worn or stained, it needs to be replaced, and it can be double-sided. Use;

3. The insole should be clothed first, and then carry out the Martindale abrasion test;

4. After the test is completed, the surface of the sample has abnormal phenomena such as wear, broken yarn, fluff or serious pilling, serious wear, etc., it is judged as Failed.

5. When making samples, special attention should be paid to the cutting edge not to produce hair changes, so as to avoid unnecessary quality loss and appearance changes.

6. Pay attention to operating specifications and personnel safety during the operation of the instrument.

Maintenance of Martindale Abrasion Testing Machine

1. The external cleaning and cleaning of the instrument must be carried out regularly to ensure the cleanliness of the testing instrument.

2. Regularly check the testing instrument to see if there is any abnormality;

3. During use, it should be used according to the correct method of use, and should not be used illegally, so as not to damage the instrument and shorten the life of the instrument;

4. After using the test instrument, each user must put the instrument in a good place and make corresponding adjustments to the instrument.

5. When the instrument is not in use, the power of the instrument should be turned off and the instrument should be kept clean.

What Are the ISTA Standard Tests and ISTA Testing Equipment?
ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) standard tests are globally recognized transportation packaging test procedures designed to evaluate the safety and reliability of products and their packaging throughout the logistics chain. By simulating real-world transportation conditions such as drops, vibration, impact, stacking, and compression, ISTA testing helps identify potential packaging weaknesses before products enter large-scale distribution. ISTA testing equipment—including drop testers, vibration testers, incline impact machines, and compression testers—plays a critical role in accurately reproducing these conditions under laboratory settings. Proper selection and use of ISTA-compliant equipment enable manufacturers to reduce transportation damage, lower return costs, enhance packaging design, and improve customer confidence in product quality and logistics safety.
