What are the commonly used test methods for abrasion resistance of leather materials?1

The test method of leather abrasion resistance is currently a long-term test type in the leather shoe material industry. Currently, the commonly used detection methods include Martindale Abrasion Tester, Taber Abrasion Tester, STROLL Abrasion Tester and Rubber Abrasion Tester. A brief introduction to the following methods is given.

1. Martindale abrasion resistance method Martindale abrasion resistance method is often used in the abrasion resistance test and pilling evaluation of textiles. my country's national standard GB/T3903.16-2008 'Shoe upper surface, lining and inner pad test' Method Abrasion Resistance' specifies the test method for testing shoe uppers by the Martindale method, and is also applicable to the test of abrasion resistance of automotive leather. The test specimen was rubbed with a standard friction fabric under constant pressure using the Martindale abrasion method. The relative motion of the Lissajous figure between the rubbing fabric and the sample produces friction in all directions. After completing the specified number of rubbing times, evaluate the damage degree of the sample.

2. TABER abrasion method The American standard ASTM D 3884-2009 'Standard test method for abrasion resistance of textile fabrics (TABER apparatus)' specifies the TABER abrasion method. The test principle of the TABER wear method is as follows: the sample to be tested is placed on a rotating platform, and the two rolling friction wheels above it perform rotational friction motion with the sample under a certain load to wear the sample. One friction wheel faces outward and the other friction wheel faces inward to rub the sample, forming a circular wear mark. The degree of wear of the specimens was evaluated visually after the specified number of rubs. Operation process: Fix the sample face up on the rotating platform, and install the selected grinding wheel on the support bar. After selecting a suitable load, lower the support rod to make the grinding wheel contact the surface of the sample, connect and turn on the vacuuming device. Start the instrument and perform the test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card according to GB/T 250-2008 'Color fastness test of textiles - Gray sample card for evaluating discoloration'.

3. The STROLL abrasion method is based on ASTM D 3886-1999 'Standard test method for abrasion resistance of textile fabrics (inflated diaphragm apparatus)', the test principle of the STROLL abrasion method is that the test sample is placed on an inflatable rubber diaphragm with constant air pressure , rub the specimen with sandpaper with the specified surface characteristics. The degree of wear of the specimens was evaluated visually after the specified number of rubs. Operation steps: Place the sample on the rubber film in a flat state, then place the sandpaper on the abrasive plate, and make the contact head connected by the sandpaper flush with the surface of the sandpaper. An air pressure of 28 kPa was then applied below the diaphragm and 454 g above the abrasive plate, ensuring that the air pressure control and the contact between the inflated sample and the loaded sandpaper were stable and balanced. Start the instrument and perform the test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card to evaluate the color change in the test area according to GB/T 250-2008 'Textile Color Fastness Test - Gray Sample Card for Assessing Discoloration'. During operation, a flat pad with a thickness of (3±1)mm, the density is (30±3) kg/m3 of polyurethane foam, and fix the sample on the grinding head with a clamping ring, then place the table felt on the grinding table, then place the friction fabric on the table felt, and will produce (2)±A weight with a pressure of 0.2) kPa is placed on the friction fabric, and then the friction fabric is fixed.

Finally, install the grinding head on the wear tester, and apply (12±0.2) kPa pressure, start the instrument, and test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card to evaluate the color change in the test area according to GB/T 250-2008 'Textile Color Fastness Test - Gray Sample Card for Assessing Discoloration'.

4. Rubber abrasion resistance testing machine The rubber abrasion resistance testing machine is used to measure the abrasion resistance of rubber tires, rubber shoes, tapes, etc., to identify the quality of rubber products. During the test, the rubber compound is rubbed with the gauze on the roller under a certain load, and the wear amount of the sample within the specified stroke is measured. Meet the requirements of GB9867, ISO4649 and DIN53516. At present, there are many suppliers of rubber wear testing machines on the market, and the quality and price vary. Customers don't know what kind of rubber wear testing machine to buy when they buy it. Kunshan Keruit Testing Instrument Co., Ltd. has specialized in producing rubber wear testing machines for dozens of years. . Main technical specifications of rubber abrasion resistance testing machine: Drum diameter: 150±0.2mm Roller length: 500mm Roller speed: 40±1r/min Sample used: Diameter: 16±0.2mm, the thickness is not less than 6mm Transverse speed of sample holder: 4.2±0.06mm/r Grinding stroke length: 20m or 40m Sample grinding speed: 0.9r/min or no rotation Self-load: 2.5N (generated by sample holder and cantilever) Sample load adjustable to weight: 5N, 7.5N , 10N (with three attached weights) Output power: AC220V 50Hz Motor speed: 3000r/min
