Analysis of weather resistance evaluation of non-metallic materials by UV aging test chamber

Plastic, rubber, paint and other non-metallic materials are often affected by climate and environmental factors such as temperature, humidity and light during use, which will cause their appearance to fade and performance to decline, affecting the service life of products. Durability is an indispensable part of the manufacturing process, so it is necessary to carry out artificial aging tests in the laboratory to optimize it. At present, the commonly used artificial aging test methods are usually to use aging test equipment such as xenon lamp aging test box, ultraviolet light aging test box and carbon arc lamp aging test box to conduct aging test on materials. (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. can provide various aging tests. Equipment, customers in need are welcome to inquire. The engineer said that the ultraviolet aging test simulates the ultraviolet light with strong energy in sunlight, and can quickly evaluate the weather resistance of non-metallic materials. The wavelength of ultraviolet light is between 200-400nm, and the photon energy is inversely proportional to its wavelength. The wavelength of light is different, and the light energy is also different. The energy value corresponding to each wavelength of light is shown in Table 1. The absorption of light is carried out in units of photons, and a molecule can only obtain one photon in a moment, so the amount of light energy determines how much energy the molecule absorbs. When the absorbed energy is greater than the bond energy of the chemical bond of the polymer material, the polymer Material degrades. The bond energies of typical chemical bonds in polymer materials are shown in Table 2. It can be seen from Tables 1 and 2 that the ultraviolet part of sunlight can cause the breakage of major chemical bonds such as C-C, C-N and C-O bonds in polymer materials, resulting in the aging and damage of polymer materials. The ultraviolet light aging test evaluates the aging resistance of polymer materials by simulating the ultraviolet light irradiation of sunlight. The quality of the test effect is closely related to the selection of the lamp source. Currently commonly used UV light sources include UVA-340, UVA-351 and UVB-313. Among them, UVA-340 light source mainly simulates the short-wave ultraviolet part (300-340nm) in sunlight; UVA-351 light source mainly simulates sunlight. The short-wave ultraviolet rays after passing through the glass have a peak radiation energy at 351nm; the spectrum of the UVB-313 lamp source is mainly concentrated at 280-360nm, and the radiation below 300nm accounts for more than 10% of the total radiation, which is similar to that of sunlight. The ultraviolet part of the test material is quite different, which is easy to cause aging that does not exist in the actual use environment, and the test results have poor correlation with the actual use. It is mainly used to quickly screen materials and evaluate the ultraviolet resistance performance of materials. A variety of test procedures can be selected for the UV light aging test, including continuous exposure, UV, condensation, and spray. When testing the effect of ultraviolet rays through glass on materials, continuous exposure is often used for testing, such as automotive interior materials, inks, or polymer materials near windows; the UV condensation test program The outdoor environmental conditions of dry-wet alternation and nighttime condensation mainly investigate the weather resistance of non-metallic materials used in areas with high relative humidity and large temperature difference between day and night; the UV spray test program comprehensively simulates the alternation of light and dark, alternation of dry and wet and rain. Outdoor environmental factors, mainly to investigate the weather resistance of non-metallic materials used in rainy areas, you can refer to the article on the correlation between outdoor exposure and UV aging box. Commonly used ultraviolet light aging test conditions: ASTM related standards list some typical test conditions of ultraviolet light aging test, and make provisions for their scope of application. The details are shown in Table 3. In the process of practical application, the above test conditions can be referred to, and corresponding adjustments can also be made according to the use environment, product characteristics and test purposes.
