Application of Taber Abrasion Tester in Performance Testing of Upper Leather Materials

The wear resistance of shoe upper materials is one of the important indicators reflecting the quality of footwear products. In the process of wearing the finished shoes, with the movement of the human foot, the material of the toe cap will often rub against the external environment such as steps and ground protrusions, and the inner part of the shoe will inevitably rub against the toes and the surface of the foot. If the upper material does not have good wear resistance, as the number of frictions accumulates over time, it will cause the upper material to fade, fluff, pilling or even breakage, etc., thus affecting the service life of the shoe. It is of great significance to improve the overall durability and service life of finished shoes by strengthening the testing of upper materials, and screening out materials with high wear resistance for use in easily damaged parts such as toe caps and shoe linings. Rotating platform and double-head wear testing machine represented by Taber wear resistance testing machine have been recognized by more and more domestic and foreign customers because of their advantages of easy operation, stable results, and wide application range. Many enterprises and trade Businesses designated Taber wear test results as one of the important indicators to characterize the wear resistance of shoe materials. The instrument structure and testing principle of Taber abrasion testing machine mainly refer to ASTM D 3884-2009 'Guidelines for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics, Rotating Platform Double-head Method', but at present, due to the lack of unified testing specifications and stable data support, this method has been affected in It is widely used in material detection, especially in the detection of complicated footwear materials. In this paper, the Taber wear tester is mainly used to test and analyze the wear resistance of commonly used shoe upper materials such as soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather, and textiles. In order to provide a reference for standardizing relevant testing work and further formulating industry standards, it is expected to expand the application of international advanced testing methods in footwear quality testing. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology [2011] No. 165 'Notice on Printing and Distributing the Third Batch of Industry Standard Revision Plans in 2011', 'Test Methods for Wear Resistance of Footwear Materials (Taber Wear Resistance Test)' The plan number of the industry standard is: 2011-2639T-QB. The drafting group is jointly composed of the Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center of the Fujian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and the National Footwear Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Wenzhou), which is responsible for drafting the industry standard. . At present, the drafting of the standard has entered the stage of submission for review, and part of the verification data in this paper comes from this standard-making project. 1 Test part 1.1 Test principle The test sample is placed on a rotating platform, and the two friction wheels above it are driven to roll by the rotating platform. One friction wheel faces outward and the other friction wheel faces inward to rub the sample. The wear mark is an overlapping ring. After the specified number of rubbing cycles, the grading evaluation is carried out according to the surface wear of the sample and the degree of color change. 1.2 Test instrument GT-7012-T TABER abrasion tester produced by Taiwan High Speed Rail Testing Instrument Co., Ltd. The rotation speed of the rotating platform is (60±5) r/min, the support bar increases the load applied to the sample by increasing the weight, which can be selected as (500±10) g or (1000±20) g, the friction grinding wheel has four models of CS10, CS17, H18 and H22 in order of increasing wear intensity. 1.3 Sample Preparation Take 5 common types of shoe upper materials such as soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather, and textiles as test samples. Take 3 representative samples of each type for testing, and each test sample Cut 8 pieces each with a diameter of (106±1) The round sample to be tested is 1mm, and after folding the sample to be tested twice, use scissors to cut off the folded corners so that a circular hole with a diameter of 6mm is formed in the center. The test results are shown in Tables 1 to 5. 1.4 The test conditions are at temperature ( 20± 2) ℃, humidity (65%± 5%) for the test. Before the test, the sample should be placed in the standard environment required by GB/T22049-2008 'Footwear Footwear and Footwear Parts Environmental Regulation and Standard Environment for Testing' [2], and adjusted for more than 4 hours. 1.5 Test procedure Fix the specimen face up on the rotating platform and install the selected grinding wheel on the support pressure bar. After selecting a suitable load, lower the support rod, make the grinding wheel contact the surface of the sample, connect and turn on the vacuuming device. Start the instrument and perform the test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. For the upper material, the number of frictions is uniformly 500 times. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card to evaluate the damage in the test area according to GB/T 250-2008 'Grey sample card for color fastness test evaluation of textiles' [3]. Color change and color fastness grade. 2 Results and discussion 2.1 Abrasion resistance of soft-face leather Through the test, the test results of abrasion resistance of soft-face leather were obtained
