Detailed steps of Martindale abrasion test

by:GESTER Instruments     2022-07-14
Sample cutting and test steps before Martindale abrasion resistance test: 1. Purpose 1.1 Suitable for abrasion resistance of various knitted fabrics and knitted fabrics. 1.2 Not suitable for tufted fabrics with a thickness of more than 2mm. 2. Principle 2.1 To judge the abrasion resistance of the fabric, under a known pressure, it will be installed in the sample holder±The samples above were rubbed against each other in a Lissajous pattern with a standard abrasive cloth. 3. Equipment and standard materials 3.1 Martindale wear resistance and pilling tester: the distance between the outer drive shaft of the outer drive assembly and the center of the central axis is 30.25±0.25mm, speed 47.5±2.5r/min, the distance between the outer drive shaft of the outer drive assembly and the central axis is 30.25±0.25mm, speed 44.5±2.4r/min, the rotation ratio of the outer drive assembly to the inner drive assembly is 16:15, and the maximum stroke of the drive assembly is 60.5±0.5mm.3.2 fabric cutter: diameter is 38mm, 140mm.3.3 standard felt: gram weight 750±50g/㎡, thickness 3±0.3mm.3.4 standard friction fabric: combed plain weave fabric made of wool, gram weight 195/㎡.3.5 standard foam lining; density 29-31kg/m3, thickness 3±0.01mm.4. Sample preparation 4.1 Cut a circular sample with a diameter of 38mm from the sample with a sampler. 4.2 The samples should be placed in a constant temperature and humidity environment to adjust the humidity before testing. 5. Test step 5.1 Place a piece of 140mm standard felt and 140mm standard friction fabric on each grinding table in turn. 5.2 Flatten the fabric and felt with a weighted object, tighten the ring clamp, and then remove the weighted object to avoid curling of the fabric when installing the sample. 5.3 Put the sample in the sample holder. If the weight of the sample is lighter than 500g/m2, a new polyurethane foam should be lined. If the weight of the sample is heavier than 500g/m2, the foam lining is not required. 5.4 Place the sample clamp on the friction table, and then apply the required pressure. For wearing fabrics, add 9±0.2kpa pressure, plus 12 for decorative fabrics±0.3kpa pressure. 5.5 Preset the appropriate number of times and start the machine. 5.6 After the instrument is stopped, observe the sample and estimate the number of continuous frictions. When approaching the end point of the experiment, reduce the number of frictions, and carefully cut off the hair particles generated on the sample with scissors. Note: Replace the abrasive and foam after each test. If a test exceeds 50,000 revolutions, the abrasive needs to be replaced. After the test, check whether the felt is stained or worn, otherwise the felt needs to be replaced. 6. Common termination conditions for experiments 6.1 Two yarns are broken off in the fabric, and one yarn is broken in the knitted fabric. 6.2 According to the customer's requirements, the test can also be considered to be terminated when the color of the sample is worn out or its appearance is deformed enough to cause consumers to complain. 6.3 can also be determined by the percentage of mass loss before and after friction. 6.4 Record the number of rubs at the end of the experiment for each sample. The 100 cm2 sampler can quickly, accurately and safely take round samples of a fixed diameter. The sampler is suitable for virtually any material, including woven fabrics, nonwovens, knitwear, carpet, film, foam, paper and wood. The material should be placed between the sampler and the special shearing plate. When the safety catch is lowered, gently press down on the handwheel so that multiple blades are in contact with the sample. The handwheel is then rotated to apply light, uniform pressure to the sample, thereby intercepting the sample. The precise design and manufacture of this instrument ensures that the sample shape is perfectly round and free of burrs. The UKAS calibration certificate confirms the operation of the instrument. To ensure effective sampling, blades should be replaced when damaged or dull. Shear plates should also be replaced when they become worn. For the best samples, use only certified blades and shearing boards.
