Suzhou Industrial Park newly added a national third-generation semiconductor technology innovation center

Semiconductor technology is a technology that uses semiconductors as materials to make components and integrated circuits. Elements in the periodic table can be roughly divided into three categories: conductors, semiconductors and insulators according to their electrical conductivity. The most common semiconductor is silicon (Si). Of course, semiconductors can also be compounds formed by two elements, such as gallium arsenide (GaAs), but compound semiconductors are mostly used in optoelectronics. The vast majority of electronic components are made of silicon, so the electronics industry is also called the semiconductor industry. The largest application of semiconductor technology is the integrated circuit (IC). After the semiconductor technology entered the nano era, in addition to the strict requirements for lithography technology caused by the miniaturization of the horizontal dimension, the requirements in the vertical direction are also strict, and research and development is more important. Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology approved the support of Suzhou Industrial Park to build a national third-generation semiconductor technology innovation center (hereinafter referred to as the“Innovation Center”). The innovation center is jointly supported and constructed by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. The Shenzhen platform and the Jiangsu platform are set up. The Jiangsu platform is constructed and implemented by the Jiangsu Third Generation Semiconductor Research Institute located in the Suzhou Industrial Park. The innovation center will take key technology research and development as its core mission, promote the synergy of various relevant innovation entities and innovation elements, coordinate national superior forces to provide source technology supply for the third-generation semiconductor industry, accelerate the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and radiate and drive the formation of a group of A first-class enterprise with core innovation capabilities promotes the overall leap in innovation capabilities of my country's third-generation semiconductor industry. Xu Ke, president of Jiangsu Third Generation Semiconductor Research Institute, said:“The approval to build the national third-generation semiconductor technology innovation center is an important milestone in the park's continuous development of the third-generation semiconductor industry for more than ten years.”Next, the innovation center will focus on building six platforms, namely, material growth innovation, test analysis and service evaluation, device process and packaging, module design and integrated application, four hard platforms, and two soft platforms for intellectual property rights and transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. . According to the preliminary plan, by 2025, Jiangsu platform will introduce more than 5 top teams, build a core team of 300 people and a collaborative R&D innovation network of 500 people, incubate and spawn 20 innovative companies with core competitiveness, and drive 100 companies through service and radiation. The innovative development of the above-mentioned enterprises has promoted the formation of systematic technological innovation capabilities of the park in the field of third-generation semiconductors. By 2030, establish a world-class, open, international, and full-chain third-generation semiconductor collaborative innovation platform with innovative systems and mechanisms. Thanks to years of global industrial chain cooperation and accumulation, Suzhou Industrial Park has become an important gathering place for industrial innovation resources at home and abroad. The development quality and innovation capability of the third-generation semiconductor industry are at the forefront of the province and the country. As early as 2006, the park began to deploy the third-generation semiconductor industry. After more than ten years of development, the industrial resource concentration and industrialization conditions have obvious advantages. At present, the third-generation semiconductor industry in Suzhou Industrial Park has cultivated more than 40 upstream and downstream backbone enterprises, gathered more than 10 national-level top technical talents in the field of gallium nitride, and more than 40 universities and research institutes have effectively contributed to the transformation of major cutting-edge original technological achievements and industrialization, and built more than 20 public service platforms such as processing platforms, testing and analysis platforms. In 2020, the Suzhou Laboratory of Materials Science was inaugurated and selected as the first batch of laboratories in Jiangsu Province, further improving the capacity of industrial innovation sources.
