Introduction to AATCC Electronic Crockmeter

The Electronic Crockmeter is engineered to evaluate the resistance of textile colors to friction. It features a pinned acrylic sample holder for efficient sample setup and repeatable results, making it a standard choice for color fastness testing.

Purpose: Test color fastness against dry and wet rubbing.

1. Dry Rubbing Procedure

1.1 Prepare Your Samples

Mount the test fabric and a crocking cloth onto the sample holder.

Reset the counter by turning the knob located on the left side of the counter.

1.2 Initiate the Test

Position the finger onto the test specimen at the front edge of the base.

Rotate the handle clockwise at a speed of approximately one rotation per second.

Perform the number of strokes as specified in your test method.

1.3 Evaluate the Results

After completing the strokes, remove the crocking cloth.

Assess the degree of staining using an SDC gray scale for precise evaluation.

2. Wet Rubbing Procedure

2.1 Prepare the Crocking Cloth

Take a fresh piece of crocking cloth and soak it in distilled water.

Gently remove excess water to maintain its own mass of moisture.

2.2 Mount the Samples

Attach the wet crocking cloth to the finger of the Crockmeter.

Secure the dyed or printed fabric to the lower platform.

2.3 Begin Testing

Perform 10 cycles by rotating the handle, ensuring the rubbing finger completes its movements.

2.4 Observe and Evaluate

Compare the discolored area on the white fabric with a color transference scale.

Note how fibers transfer from the colored surface to the white backing fabric.
