ASTM D3887 Fabric Density Test Standard1

1. Scope This test method is applicable to all kinds of knitted fabrics, such as warp knitting, weft knitting and so on.

1.1 Overview of the method --- Use a magnifying glass and other instruments to measure the number of courses or wales per unit length in the warp or weft direction of the fabric.

1.2 Significance and usage --- This method is used for commercial shipment acceptance testing. If the buyer and seller disagree on the reported results, such as numerical deviation, etc., the buyer's and seller's test room should evaluate whether the samples were taken from the same batch of fabrics.

1.3 Instruments and equipment---Any magnifying or computing equipment (such as magnifying glass, ruler, small needle, microscope, etc.).

2. Sampling

2.1 Obtain samples in accordance with Section 6 or the agreement between the buyer and the seller.

2.2 Take a sample from a roll or batch with a width of at least 2 meters in length.

2.3 Constant temperature and humidity---Place the sample in a constant temperature and humidity chamber to constant weight (weigh every 2 hours, and the weight is constant when the difference between the first and last two weights does not exceed 0.1%).

3. Step

3.1 Measure the number of courses and wales outside 1/10 of the width and 0.5 meters (0.5 yards) from the end of a horse or roll.

3.2 Unless otherwise specified, the front side of the fabric is usually measured.

3.3 If the fabric contains 10 loops per cm (25 loops per inch) or more, measure the number of wales and courses of at least 5 cm (2 inches) at 5 different locations per lot.

3.4 If the fabric contains less than 10 loops per cm (less than 25 loops per inch), measure the number of wales or courses within at least 10 cm (4 inches) at 5 different locations per lot.

3.5 If the fabric has a pattern or pattern, determine the number of wales or courses in the entire cycle length of the fabric pattern.

3.6 Use a chart to represent 3.3-3.4 The number of vertical rows or columns/in 25 or more and less than 25. The minimum measurement distance is 2 inches (5 cm)

4 inches (10 cm) The number of measurements (position) 5 5 4. Calculate and calculate 5 different positions The average of the number of columns or columns per 2.5 cm (1 inch), to the nearest 0.1 columns or columns.

5. Report

5.1 Indicate that this test is performed in accordance with ASTM D 3887, and describe the materials and methods used.

5.2 Report the following:

-5.2.1 Average number of courses and columns per 2.5 cm (1 inch), first courses (wales/in) and then courses/in.

-5.2.2 List the size of the pattern cycle.

-5.2.3 List the temperature and humidity during the test, such as: standard environment for testing textiles, humidity conditions, etc.

6. Accuracy

6.1 Accuracy---This method has established the accuracy of horizontal and vertical density of knitted fabrics.

What is the Use of Air Permeability Tester?
An air permeability tester measures how easily air passes through textiles, nonwovens, and other materials, directly impacting comfort (heat/moisture management) and performance (wind resistance, filtration). This guide explains how digital testers work using pressurized airflow, details step-by-step testing procedures (including nozzle selection), and covers key applications in apparel, medical, automotive, and industrial sectors. What Are the Types of Color Fastness Testing for Fabrics?
Color fastness testing evaluates how well fabrics resist fading or bleeding under conditions like washing, rubbing, light exposure, and perspiration. Key tests include rubbing fastness, washing fastness, light fastness, perspiration fastness, and sublimation fastness. These tests ensure textiles maintain color integrity, prevent health risks, and meet quality standards. Learn about different testing methods and equipment used in the textile industry.
What Are the Test Methods for Fabric Bursting Strength?
Fabric bursting strength measures resistance to rupture under concentrated load. Three primary test methods are used:

Ball Burst Method (ASTM D3787): Steel ball penetration for textiles/films using testers like GT-C02-2.

Hydraulic Method (ISO 13938.1): Fluid pressure on rubber diaphragm for industrial fabrics via GT-C12A.

Pneumatic Method (ISO 13938.2): Compressed air for breathable materials tested with GT-C12B.
Results are influenced by raw materials, yarn properties,
Water Resistance Testing Standards and Methods
Textile water resistance testing evaluates fabrics through three primary methods: hydrostatic pressure (measuring water penetration resistance), spray rating (assessing surface water repellency), and water repellency tests (quantifying water absorption). Hydrostatic pressure testing is critical for high-performance applications like outdoor apparel and diving gear, while spray rating evaluates surface staining for rainwear. Water repellency tests, such as the Bundesmann method, determine overall
