Application
Martindale Tester to determine the abrasion and pilling resistance of all kinds of textile structures. Samples are rubbed against known abradents at low pressures and in continuously changing directions and the amount of abrasion or pilling is compared against standard parameters.
The Martindale Abrasion and Pilling Tester tester consists of a circular rotating platform, onto which a specimen of the fabric is placed. A pair of abrasive wheels, covered in a standard abrasive material such as emery paper, are then applied to the fabric in a circular motion. The number of rotations and the pressure applied can be adjusted to simulate different types of wear.
The results of Martindale testing can help manufacturers determine the suitability of a fabric for a particular use, and can also be used to compare the performance of different fabrics.
