Test method for wear resistance of shoe upper materials

In this paper, the Taber wear tester is mainly used to test and analyze the wear resistance of commonly used shoe upper materials such as soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather, and textiles. In order to provide a reference for standardizing relevant testing work and further formulating industry standards, it is expected to expand the application of international advanced testing methods in footwear quality testing. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology [2011] No. 165 'Notice on Printing and Distributing the Third Batch of Industry Standard Revision Plans in 2011', 'Test Methods for Wear Resistance of Footwear Materials (Taber Wear Resistance Test)' The plan number of the industry standard is: 2011-2639T-QB. The drafting group is jointly composed of the Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center of the Fujian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and the National Footwear Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Wenzhou), which is responsible for drafting the industry standard. . At present, the drafting of the standard has entered the stage of submission for review, and part of the verification data in this paper comes from this standard-making project. Test principle The test sample is placed on a rotating platform, and the two friction wheels above it are driven by the rotating platform to roll, and the friction wheels rotate and rub the sample with the sample under a certain load to wear the sample. One friction wheel faces outward and the other friction wheel faces inward to rub the sample. The wear mark is an overlapping ring. After the specified number of rubbing cycles, the grading evaluation is carried out according to the surface wear of the sample and the degree of color change. Sample preparation Take five common types of shoe upper materials such as soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather, and textiles as test samples, and three representative samples of each type are taken for testing. Cut 8 pieces with a diameter of (106±1) A round sample to be tested of mm, and after folding the sample to be tested in half twice, use scissors to cut off the overlapping corners so that a circular hole with a diameter of 6 mm is formed in the center. The test conditions are at temperature ( 2 0± 2) ℃, humidity ( 65%± 5%) for the test. Before the test, the sample should be placed in the standard environment required by GB/T22049-2008 'Footwear Footwear and Footwear Parts Environmental Regulation and Standard Environment for Testing' [2], and adjusted for more than 4 hours. The test procedure fixes the specimen face up on the rotating platform and mounts the selected grinding wheel on the support press bar. After selecting a suitable load, lower the support rod, make the grinding wheel contact the surface of the sample, connect and turn on the vacuuming device. Start the instrument and perform the test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. For the upper material, the number of frictions is uniformly 500 times. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card to evaluate the damage in the test area according to GB/T 250-2008 'Grey sample card for color fastness test evaluation of textiles' [3]. Color change and color fastness grade. Conclusion By testing and analyzing the wear resistance of 5 types of commonly used shoe upper materials, including soft leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, microfiber leather and textiles, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) For the upper of soft leather For the wear resistance test of the material, the grinding wheel of CS17 and the test load of 1000g should be used; for the wear resistance test of the upper materials of artificial leather, synthetic leather and textile, the grinding wheel of H18 and the test load of 500g should be used; for the microfiber leather For the wear resistance test of the upper material of the shoe, the H18 grinding wheel and the test load of 1000g should be used. (2) The general order of the five types of commonly used shoe upper materials in terms of wear resistance is: microfiber leather>artificial leather>Synthetic Leather>textile>Natural leather. When designing and developing the upper surface of footwear products, reasonable material selection and matching can be carried out according to the advantages and disadvantages of various shoe upper materials, so as to effectively improve the durability and wear life of footwear products. . (3) The Taber wear test machine method is suitable for the wear resistance test of various common shoe upper materials. Its principle is scientific, the test steps are reasonable and standardized, and it is easy to operate. Standard specification for evaluating the abrasion resistance of various footwear materials. What Are the ISTA Standard Tests and ISTA Testing Equipment?
ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) standard tests are globally recognized transportation packaging test procedures designed to evaluate the safety and reliability of products and their packaging throughout the logistics chain. By simulating real-world transportation conditions such as drops, vibration, impact, stacking, and compression, ISTA testing helps identify potential packaging weaknesses before products enter large-scale distribution. ISTA testing equipment—including drop testers, vibration testers, incline impact machines, and compression testers—plays a critical role in accurately reproducing these conditions under laboratory settings. Proper selection and use of ISTA-compliant equipment enable manufacturers to reduce transportation damage, lower return costs, enhance packaging design, and improve customer confidence in product quality and logistics safety.
