Textile pilling test standard and method

Textile pilling test standard and method

The process of fabric pilling can be divided into three stages: fluffing, entanglement into balls, and pilling off. The pilling test routine has the following four methods: circular trajectory method, Martindale method, rolling box method and random tumbling method. Pilling test method

1: circular trajectory method

- Test standard: GB/T 4802.1-2008. This method mainly simulates the pilling of the fabric when it is subjected to external friction, and is mostly used in woven fabrics and knitted fabrics.

-Test principle: According to the specified method and test parameters, use nylon brush and fabric abrasive or only fabric abrasive to make the sample rub and pill. The pilling performance was then assessed visually under specified lighting conditions. The parameters selected by the circular trajectory method are selected according to the fabric type.

2: Martindale test method

-Test standard: GB/T 4802.2, ISO12945-2, ASTM D4970, IWS TM 196, M﹠S P17, Next TM26, SN 198525.

This method mainly simulates the pilling situation when the fabric is constantly rubbed by itself, and is suitable for wool fabrics and other woven fabrics that are prone to pilling.

-Test principle: Under the specified pressure, the circular sample is rubbed with the same fabric or wool fabric abrasive fabric in the trajectory of the Lissajous figure. The specimen is free to rotate about a central axis perpendicular to the plane of the specimen. After the specified rubbing period, the test specimens were rated for pilling or pilling by visual description.

3: pilling box method

-Test standard: GB/T4802.3, ISO 12945.1, BS5811, IWS TM152. This method simulates the pilling of the fabric when it is subjected to its own or external friction, and is mainly suitable for wool fabrics.

-Test principle: The sample installed on the polyurethane tube is turned over arbitrarily in a cork-lined wooden box with a constant rotation speed. After the specified number of overturns, the pilling and/or pilling performance is assessed visually. The parameters are 7200 r for coarse fabrics and 14400 r for worsted fabrics, or the number of revolutions as agreed.

4: random tumbling method

-Test standard: ASTM D3512, DIN 53867, JIS L1076. This method mainly simulates the fuzzing and pilling of the fabric after high-frequency rubbing by itself or the outside world.

-Test principle: The random-turning pilling tester can detect the pilling performance of fabrics. Under the rotation of the stainless steel blades in the independent stainless steel sample test chamber, the fabric to be tested and the cork lining wall are continuously and randomly rubbed, and the test time is controlled by a timer and an audio alarm. The test chamber can also be injected with compressed air to enhance turning and friction. effect.
