What is an oxygen index meter?

Devices that measure the oxygen index are called oxygen index meters, which can measure the oxygen index of a variety of materials such as plastics, rubber, textile fabrics, wood, foam, and other polymeric materials. The instrument is mainly composed of a combustion cylinder, a sample holder, a gas source, a flow meter and a control part. Specimen holder: used to vertically support the specimen in the center of the combustion cylinder. For self-supporting materials, the grip should be at least 15mm away from the nearest point to which the test specimen may be burnt. For films or sheets, use a frame with two vertical sides to support the specimen, and mark lines 20 mm and 100 mm from the top of the frame. Clamps and support borders should be smooth to minimize disturbance to the updraft. Gas source: Oxygen and/or nitrogen and/or clean air [containing oxygen 20.9% (volume fraction)] with a purity (mass fraction) of not less than 98% can be used as the gas source. Combustion cylinder: It is composed of a heat-resistant glass cylinder which is vertically fixed on the base and can introduce oxygen-containing mixed gas. The preferred combustor size is height (500±50) mm, inner diameter (75~100) mm. Timer: measuring time up to 5min, accuracy±0.5s. Smoke exhaust system: There are ventilation and exhaust facilities, which can remove the soot or ash particles in the combustion cylinder, but cannot interfere with the gas flow rate and temperature in the combustion cylinder. Flow measurement and control system: It is composed of pressure gauge, pressure regulator valve, pipeline and rotor flowmeter. The metered oxygen and nitrogen gas enter the combustion cylinder from the air inlet at the bottom of the combustion cylinder after passing through the gas mixer. Igniter: consists of one end with a diameter of 2mm±It consists of a 1mm tube that can be inserted into the combustion cylinder and ignited by a flame. The fuel for the flame should be propane unmixed with air. When the tube is inserted vertically, the combustion supply should be adjusted so that the flame shoots 16mm vertically downward from the outlet±4mm. Is a professional testing instrument manufacturer, focusing on the research and development of textile testing instruments, including: plastic oxygen index tester, high temperature oxygen index tester, limiting oxygen index tester, intelligent oxygen index tester, etc., and also actively expand testing in other industries The diversified product structure of the instrument makes it always maintain a dominant position in the increasingly competitive market, and can fully meet the increasingly complex and diversified needs of customers.

However, with the increased prevalence of textile testing equipment, it has become far more affordable.

What Are the ISTA Standard Tests and ISTA Testing Equipment?
ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) standard tests are globally recognized transportation packaging test procedures designed to evaluate the safety and reliability of products and their packaging throughout the logistics chain. By simulating real-world transportation conditions such as drops, vibration, impact, stacking, and compression, ISTA testing helps identify potential packaging weaknesses before products enter large-scale distribution. ISTA testing equipment—including drop testers, vibration testers, incline impact machines, and compression testers—plays a critical role in accurately reproducing these conditions under laboratory settings. Proper selection and use of ISTA-compliant equipment enable manufacturers to reduce transportation damage, lower return costs, enhance packaging design, and improve customer confidence in product quality and logistics safety.
