Analysis of the Air Permeability of Pure Cotton Tested by Fabric Air Permeability Meter

Fabric air permeability is one of the important indicators of fabric performance. The air permeability of wearing fabrics directly affects the thermal insulation and comfort of clothing; the air permeability of some industrial textiles is also closely related to its function, such as the air permeability of parachutes, hoses, and filter cloths.

The effect of performance on its use, filtering effect, etc. The breathability of fabric refers to the ability of air to pass through the pores of the fabric when there is a pressure difference on both sides of the fabric. Generally, it is completed by the interweaving pores and inter-fiber gaps of warp and weft yarns. Therefore, the air permeability of the fabric is determined by the number and size of the pores between the fibers, and is related to the fibers, yarn properties, fabric geometry and post-finishing factors, that is, there are many factors that affect the fabric air permeability. The indicators that indicate the air permeability of fabrics are air permeability and air permeability.

Air permeability refers to the volume of air flowing through the unit area of the fabric in unit time under the specified pressure difference on both sides of the fabric, and its unit is m3/m2·s. Air permeability refers to the rate of airflow passing through the sample vertically under the specified sample area, pressure drop and time, and its unit is mm/s. The air permeability of the fabric is positively related to the air pressure difference between the two sides of the fabric. According to the new national standard, the air permeability is now used to represent the air permeability of the fabric, and the air permeability and the air volume are equal in value.

According to the experimental method stipulated in the national standard GB5453-85, this experiment uses the fabric breather to measure the air volume of the fabric through the fabric per unit time under a certain pressure difference condition to obtain the air permeability of the fabric. The fabric air permeability testing-equipment' target='_blank'>tester is used to test the air permeability of various flat materials such as: knitted fabrics, woven fabrics (including tightly coated fabrics), non-woven fabrics, paper, paper felt, glass fibers, air filters and foams.

Air permeability tester for fabric Applicable standards: GB/T5453, GB/T13764, ASTMD737, ASTMD3574, ISO9237, AFNORG07-111, BS5636, DIN53887, JISL1096-A and other national standards.

Air permeability testing equipment Test steps:

1. Prepare the sample as required and cut it to the specified size, and install it on the Automatic Air Permeability Tester.

2. Select the orifice plate. (Note: For different tested fabrics, test orifice plates with different diameters should be selected. The better the air permeability of the material, the larger the diameter of the selected orifice plate. The tester can estimate the air permeability of the material according to the historical data or experience. To select the orifice plate. If you do not know the air permeability of the material to be tested, you need to test to determine which orifice plate to use.)

3. Turn on the power of the Automatic Air Permeability Tester, in the test state, press the [SET] key to enter Parameter setting, including sample pressure difference, sample area, nozzle number and test unit, after setting the parameters, press the [Zero] key in the test interface to initialize the air pressure sensor, press the sample compression handle, Click the [Test] button to start the test.

4. When the set pressure difference is reached, the instrument automatically converts the test results and stops the test. After the test, you can press the [Function] key to perform corresponding operations in the pop-up menu, and you can press the [Search] key to view the test results. And can print the test results, when the test is over, turn off the power, clean the instrument and accessories, and remove the setting circle.

Water Resistance Testing Standards and Methods
Textile water resistance testing evaluates fabrics through three primary methods: hydrostatic pressure (measuring water penetration resistance), spray rating (assessing surface water repellency), and water repellency tests (quantifying water absorption). Hydrostatic pressure testing is critical for high-performance applications like outdoor apparel and diving gear, while spray rating evaluates surface staining for rainwear. Water repellency tests, such as the Bundesmann method, determine overall
