Manual tear strength tester single seam tear test principle

Manual tear strength tester single seam tear test principle

The manual tearing strength tester is used to test the impact tearing strength of textiles, woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics and coated fabrics.

Applicable standards:

GB3917.1 'Tearing properties of textile fabrics - Part 1: Determination of tearing strength by impact pendulum method' FZ/T6006-1991 'Determination of tearing strength of non-woven fabrics' FZ/T75001-1993-1999 'Coating Test method for tearing strength of layered fabrics' ASTMD1424-96 'Determination of tearing strength of fabrics by impact pendulum method-Elmendorf' ASTMD5734-96 'Determination of tearing strength of non-woven fabrics by impact pendulum method-Elmendorf' Main parameters:

1. Mechanical

2. Test range: 400, 800, 1600, 3200&6400gms (counterweight optional);

3. Test accuracy:±0.5%;

4. Pendulum restoration: manual.

5. Test principle:

When the single seam method is torn, a stress triangle is formed at the tear of the fabric. When the stressed weft yarns in the sample are gradually separated up and down, the warp yarns that are not directly stressed begin to slide somewhat relative to the stressed weft yarns, and gradually move closer to form an approximate triangular area. At the bottom of the tear opening, the warp yarns in the stressed triangle are under tension together, and the warp yarns at the bottom edge of the triangle are stressed more, and the other warp yarns are gradually weakened according to a certain load level difference. Due to the frictional resistance between the yarns, the sliding is limited. When sliding, the tension of the warp increases rapidly, and the deformation elongation also increases sharply. When the front warp yarn that constitutes the bottom edge of the stress triangle is stretched to the breaking elongation, the warp yarn breaks, and the stress state of the second warp yarn is immediately transformed into the state before the front warp yarn breaks. The roots are broken continuously one by one, forming a fracture surface like a knife cut. It can be seen that when the single seam method is torn, the broken yarn is the yarn of the non-tensile system, and the direction of the tensile force is perpendicular to the original axis of the broken yarn. The special pendulum can increase the test thickness of textiles up to 64,000mN weight, while also using a heavy duty specimen cutter.

The Importance of Elmendorf Tearing Strength Tester in Quality Control
In this article, we will discuss the importance of Elmendorf Tearing Strength Tester in quality control and how it can help manufacturers ensure the consistency and durability of their products.
What is The Falling-Pendulum Type Elmendorf Tearing Tester ?
The Tearing Strength Tester works on the principle of measuring the Internal tearing resistance, which isthe force perpendicular to the plane of the fabric required to propagate a single-rip or tear of a definedlength from a cut in the fabric when a sudden force is applied.
What Is The Elmendorf Tear Tester
The Elmendorf Tear Tester is a specialized instrument for rapidly determining the dynamic tear resistance, or force required to propagate an existing cut, in materials like paper, cardboard, textiles (woven & non-woven), plastic films, foil, and composites. Essential for quality control in industries where resistance to tearing is critical, it operates by measuring the energy loss of a falling pendulum to initiate and extend a tear. GESTER's advanced Elmendorf Tester offers features such as micr
