What are the wear test methods

Many products will inevitably come into contact or even rub against other objects in the environment during transportation or use. This interaction will inevitably lead to partial failure of the device, such as fading, pattern blurring, surface wear, etc. The wear resistance test of the product can obtain reliable information on the wear resistance and loss performance of the product, and the manufacturer can use the data obtained from the test to improve the product material or design. Therefore, wear testing is essential to improve product reliability. Today, I will introduce the four common test methods of wear test in detail. The four methods of wear test mainly include linear reciprocating friction test, rotary friction test, reciprocating friction test, and scratch resistance test. Through the understanding of these four test methods, we can have a general understanding of the wear test. 1. Linear reciprocating friction test It is used to evaluate the product's wear resistance, scratch resistance (single or multiple scratches) and color transferability (usually abrasion resistance or abrasion resistance), etc. Dry and wet grinding tests can be performed. Commonly used in plastics, auto parts, rubber, leather and textiles, electroplating, free disassembly components, paints, printed patterns and other products. Second, the rotational friction test is used to test the rotational friction of flat products, such as: suitcases, carpets, cardboard, clothing, glass, plastic coatings, tiles, metal coatings, paints, varnishes, decorative panels, high pressure panels, plastics, textiles, elasticity Floor mats, transportation coatings, anodized layers, blankets, electronic components, decorative panels, waxes, labels, leather covers, dental materials, automotive interiors, resins, furniture, etc. 3. Reciprocating friction test Reciprocating friction is used to test various physical damages, such as wear, scratches, etc. on the material surface, which is an ideal choice for testing flat samples. The actual weight of the balance arm can be weighed to ensure the accuracy of the test load. At the end of the balance arm are the weight brackets and accessory brackets. Below the reciprocating wear tester is a sample stage that moves back and forth horizontally. Adjustable test parameters such as reciprocation length, speed and load. 4. Scratch resistance test The scratch resistance test mainly detects the wear resistance of smooth and textured plastic parts in the interior and exterior parts of automobiles. In addition to the development of materials and products, it also applies to the quality control of related products. The five-finger scratch/scratch tester is designed for plastic material evaluation, abrasion resistance of hard materials, inspection of paints, inks, soft metals, oiled carpets, add-ons and other materials. There are many products suitable for wear test. In the actual test process, if the wear resistance can reach 2,000 times, it is meaningless to test again. This is something that everyone should pay attention to. These four test methods can basically judge the pros and cons of a product's wear resistance. Of course, different products can also choose single or multiple test methods to detect.

ISO 17694 / ISO 5402-1: Footwear Flexing Resistance Test Methods
Footwear soles and uppers endure thousands of flex cycles during use, risking premature cracking, delamination, or chipping if material resistance is inadequate. This technical analysis details two critical international standards:

1. ISO 5402-1: Specifies the flexometer method for testing leather flex resistance under repeated bending.

2. ISO 17694: Defines test methods for footwear upper and lining flex resistance, simulating real-world bending stress to assess long-term durability.

What Are the ISTA Standard Tests and ISTA Testing Equipment?
ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) standard tests are globally recognized transportation packaging test procedures designed to evaluate the safety and reliability of products and their packaging throughout the logistics chain. By simulating real-world transportation conditions such as drops, vibration, impact, stacking, and compression, ISTA testing helps identify potential packaging weaknesses before products enter large-scale distribution. ISTA testing equipment—including drop testers, vibration testers, incline impact machines, and compression testers—plays a critical role in accurately reproducing these conditions under laboratory settings. Proper selection and use of ISTA-compliant equipment enable manufacturers to reduce transportation damage, lower return costs, enhance packaging design, and improve customer confidence in product quality and logistics safety.
