Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Technology has made progress in the development of supercapacitor application research

Supercapacitors can provide ultra-high power density and ultra-long cycle life, and are widely used in auxiliary emergency power supplies, high-power power supplies, start-stop power supplies for new energy electric vehicles, energy recovery systems, and smart grids. However, supercapacitors have low energy density relative to secondary batteries and have a low market share in commercial electrochemical energy storage devices. Therefore, in order to promote the development of supercapacitors, while improving the energy density of supercapacitors, it is necessary to develop supercapacitors with special functions to expand their application fields. Recently, the low-dimensional materials and chemical energy storage research group of Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences integrated the unidirectional conduction characteristics of diodes into supercapacitors with fast charge-discharge characteristics by synthesizing polyanion/cationic liquids and matching commercial activated carbons. A supercapacitor diode with fast ion conduction and effective blocking of one-side bias is realized. This emerging ionic diode is expected to be applied in the correction of AC circuits, signal processing and signal regulation, ionic logic circuits (AND, OR, NAND, etc.) and neuromorphic computing. The related research results were published in Advanced Materials under the title Construction of Supercapacitor‐Based Ionic Diodes with Adjustable Bias Directions by Using Poly(ionic liquid) Electrolytes. The research group is committed to the regulation of ionic liquid-based electrolytes for supercapacitors, and has published relevant research results in Nature Communications, Energy Storage Materials, Energy Environmental Science, Advanced Materials, etc. The research work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Dalian National Clean Energy Laboratory Cooperation Fund and the Zhaoqing Science and Technology Bureau.
